To start things off here is a short video demonstrating a couple of exercises using a heavy bag which are designed for increasing the kind of ‘core strength’ used for punching. Put together they are a simple and effective way to develop more powerful punches. I particularly like the second one as it is the only exercise I know which really focusses on the right area, and the right kind of quick-twitch muscle fibers, for added core strength to your hooks. Both together they will only add a few minutes to your workout and they are well worth it:
